Euro NCAP gives Tiguan 5 star rating
Even before it is launched in the UK market, the European New Car Assessment Program or Euro NCAP already gave the new Volkswagen Tiguan a five star rating for occupant protection, as carpages.co.uk reported
Euro NCAP test include a frontal impact test at 40 mph into an offset deformable barrier, the side impact test consists of a 30 mph impact, the pole test at 18 mph and the pedestrian tests constitutes a 25 mph impact.
For maximum protection in the passenger safety cell, a rigid body structure was incorporated in the Tiguan. The panels are made from high tensile steel, which are designed to deform in case of a collision. Aside from the durability of the Tiguan, Volkswagen engineers made the vehicle lighter with an overall kerb weight of 1,451 kg.
Passenger safety is enhanced with standard six airbags, ABS, Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) and brake assist. All seats are also equipped with three-point seatbelts. In front, electric belt tensioners are incorporated while the rear gets ISOFIX child seat preparation.
Along with the protection of the belt tensioners and airbags, other standard programs are included in the vehicle in case of an impact. These are the activation of hazard warning lights, unlocking of doors, interior lights are turned on and the fuel pump is deactivated.
The Tiguan will be available in February 2008 and be priced around £19,500.
