Volkswagen to roll out limited edition R32
Volkswagen of America has announced that it will only sell 5000 units of its racing inspired R32 model and had anticipated strong consumer demand. The new R32 is a reprise of the 2004 model, which had sold out its entire United States allocation of 5000 units when it debuted.
The new model is expected to appeal to previous and current R32 enthusiasts, plus the owners of the GTI and the whole of the enthusiast market.
Volkswagen had anticipated the demand and had set up an online reservation system for aspiring owners in the R32 microsite in www.vw.com. Prospective owners will be referred to a Volkswagen dealership. The first 850 people who will place a deposit will then be eligible to buy the R32, which will be delivered in August 2007.
The R32 is equipped with a 3.2 liter V6 engine, which can deliver 259 hp and 236 ft-lb of torque, mated to a six-speed dual clutch DSG transmission.. It also has a standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.
Other features include twin chrome exhausts, 18-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, a deep front spoiler, rear roof spoiler, side bump strips, door handles and R32 badging. It also has
